Day 17: to Robin Hood’s Bay

Woke up very excited and bags were packed and I was ready to go by 7.30am 🤔 considering I was only being picked up at 8.45am tad eager methinks 😂😂

Dropped off to Littlebeck just after 9am and the last day of walking started through Little Beck Wood.

Weather warnings were in place for winds up to 60mph and although I could hear it in the trees it seemed relatively mild.

The meandering path led through a very pretty route passing hermitage cave and Falling Floss waterfall. There were white feathers here and there and felt Mum and Nanna were watching over me.

Out of the woods and onto the moors I went. Oh boy now I could feel the wind and it was pushing me with a vengeance. Even the sheep were hunkered down between the heather and no birds were flying.

Just glad it wasn’t boggy too as that could’ve proved disastrous!! Met a German gentleman who had started the walk today but was going East to West and 1st night in Glaisdale. Didn’t envy him having to walk into the wind!!

The trail dropped down into a little gully with hedges on either side – bit of a relief from the wind and then onto Hawsker.

The coastline was in sight. Going through Northcliffe Holiday Park I was stopped by a local who advised me against going down the cliff path to Robins Hood Bay. I decided to heed his advice, as didn’t want any misfortune, and headed back to the cycle route.

Once on the cycle path, I looked towards the sea and saw the most beautiful rainbow. Knew I had made the right decision for me 😁

The wind now went up a notch in intensity and I was actually leaning sideways trying to stay upright and not lose my footing!!’ Saw the coastal path below and the lookout hut so knew I was getting close.

With a spring in my step as the end was nigh and knew Debs was waiting in the carpark the heavens decided to open and within seconds I was drenched to the skin – all I could do was laugh heading into Robin Hoods Bay – it didn’t matter!!

As quickly as it started the rain stopped and saw Debs walking up to me.

After giving her a huge hug I linked my arm into hers and down we walked the steep hill to Wainwrights Bar – the finishing point!!

When I saw it with the sign my face must have been a picture – huge grin with the thought going through mind ‘I’ve done it, I’ve actually done it – I have walked the Coast to Coast!!’

I removed my stone carried from St Bees and went to the sea. Once boots wettened I threw my stone – ok so it was more of a plop less than a meter from me 😂😂 but the tradition was completed!!

We headed into the bar, signed the book, ordered my last G&B and sat outside watching other coasters arrive doing the same as me 😁 Rocking Roy arrived with a different group. They had done 4 days completing the walk, which they have done in stages over past 3 years. He came and sat down with us saying he was thrilled to have his entry after mine 😂😂 I have no idea why?!?

We walked up to accommodation, so I could have a quick shower and change and was thrilled to be surprised by flowers 😘😘 thanks Auds. Also received fab WhatsApp pictures from the squirrels and Mutley 😁

Back down to Wainwrights bar we went as I was hoping to meet up with Kate and Sandy as Kate had her dates wrong, she was finishing the same day as me.

They were there and the night flew past with lots of laughter, drinks and dinner. Before we knew it, we were the last ones there. A taxi was ordered as none of us were in any state to walk up to our respective accommodation. It was the same lady who had picked me up and dropped me back to Littlebeck. Small world!!

After saying our goodbyes, Debs and I still giggling head to our accommodation. We contained ourselves once we reached the back door and hopefully, we entered and got into the room quietly 😁 what a fabulous ending to my coast to coast adventure!!!

One last thing THANK YOU for all your messages, love and support throughout my adventure – couldn’t have done it without you all rooting for me!!!

And hope you’ve enjoyed reading about it 😂😊
